Fresh indie tunes with catchy pop hooks are the signature style of emerging Brisbane artist Katanak. Known for infectious indie rock/pop groove-inducing earworms that fans of The 1975, The Wombats and Sam Fender will appreciate, Katanak is ready to bring plenty of colour to #AgnesBluesFest 2024 and rock your world.
Katanak has performed at the Brisbane Festival and collaborated with some of Australia’s most highly respected emerging and established artists, including Quan Yeomans (Regurgitator) and Pete Murray. He comfortably straddles genres between rock and pop, defying definition and casting aside rigid genre labels in the belief that the only thing that matters is that the songs are good.
Katanak embarked on his second tour of Queensland in 2023, taking his music across the region and notably rocking the Cairns Festival and Rockhampton River Festival, sharing the spotlight with The Delta Riggs. Katanak also supported Pete Murray and secured the prestigious halftime slot at the FIFA Fan Festival during the Matilda’s electrifying game against France for the FIFA Womens Football World Cup.
He is currently recording his debut EP with Aidan Hogg (Jaguar Jonze, Hope D), which promises to showcase his constantly evolving musical style and capture the essence of his artistic growth and experimentation.
Katanak’s music has been played on major stations Triple J Unearthed, Double J Radio, ABC Radio, BBC Introducing Radio Solent (UK), BBC Radio nan Gaidheal (Scotland), Amazing Radio (both UK & US), OZ Now Radio and 4ZZZ with Sunday’s video clip added to rotation on MTV Upload across Australia and New Zealand. Gathering praise from Music is My Muse, Happy Mag, LivewireAU and Good Call Live, Katanak is fast establishing himself as an exciting indie newcomer.
With music “oozing the charm of a 90s boy band dipped in a delicious sugar-pop sound” (Music is my Muse), this young musician shows no sign of slowing down any time soon. Katanak can’t wait to rock the #AgnesBluesFest Marquee Stage for the very first time from 2.30-3.30pm on Saturday 17 February 2024.
